Living with asthma can be extremely frustrating, at times. There are many times when you may do a simple activity such as walking up a flight of stairs, but have trouble catching your breath when you reach the top. The following article will give you some tips for making it a little easier to live with asthma.

It may be wise to wear an ID bracelet if you have asthma. This way, if you were to have an asthma attack and you cannot speak for yourself, paramedics will know that you have this condition. If you do not feel comfortable wearing and ID bracelet, be sure to carry something on you that says you have asthma.

During a mild to moderate attack, force all of the air out of your lungs. Exhale as fast and hard as you can. Forcefully push the air out from your lungs. Take three breaths in succession. These breaths don’t have to be deep, just breathe a little. Then take a deep breath, pulling as much air as possible into your lungs. When your lungs are as full as you can stand, force the air out. This will force you to pay careful attention to all of your breaths. This is a good way to empty your lungs and let more air come in. Do not be alarmed if you cough or generate excess mucous; this is perfectly normal. Your only concern is to return your breathing to normal.

When it is humid outside, it is best for asthma sufferers to remain indoors. The pollen count is high during high humidity, and that can cause an asthma flare up. It is also a good idea to stay inside when the seasons are changing for the same reasons as the humidity.

Ask everyone in your family to get a flu shot every year. Asthma sufferers need to be careful and guard against any upper-resperatory illnesses. Making sure to consistently wash your hands, and getting the proper vaccinations are two standard precautions.

If you have children with asthma, complete a regular inspection of your home. The most common triggers of asthma attacks in children are dust, mold and other harmful spores in the air. Checking your home once a year for these air pollutants is an effective way to prevent and treat your child’s asthma attacks.

Scented products could cause averse reactions to asthma sufferers. It is safest to use unscented products when possible. Products with fragrance, such as perfumes, colognes, and air fresheners, introduce irritants into the air around you and can cause asthma attacks. In addition, paint that is fresh or carpet that is new release odors that can cause breathing irritations that lead to an asthma attack. Keep the air inside as fresh as you can.

As was stated in the beginning of this article, living with asthma every day can be extremely frustrating. When simple daily tasks leave you gasping for air, life can, at times, seem like it is very limited. Hopefully, this article has given you some good ideas for helping to control your asthma, and making the most of your day.
